Supports Dunleavy

To the editor:

We met Mike Dunleavy several years ago at a meeting. After he introduced himself, we had a conversation about the Alaska Scholastic Clay Target Program, and Neil’s dream to develop the program as a high school sport with lettering capability. At the time, Mr. Dunleavy (now Senator Dunleavy) was President of the Matanuska-Susitna School Board, and was very interested in the possibility of adding such a great outdoor program to their afterschool activities. He said he would like to arrange for Neil to speak to the board at a school district school board meeting. In less than two weeks, Neil was scheduled to present the Scholastic Clay Target Program to the School Board. They were very receptive to the prospect of bringing ASCTP into Mat-Su schools. In fact, with Mr. Dunleavy’s assistance and influence, the plans moved forward rapidly in order to make the program available to our district’s high school students. Because of his actions, the program is now an integral part of afterschool activities in the Mat-Su borough and is expanding statewide. Without Mike Dunleavy’s initial help and follow-up, this fantastic program may not have progressed from a dream to a reality. Senator Dunleavy is a man of action and a man of his word. It may seem like a small thing, but for the kids and families that have been impacted by this program, this was an incredible gesture on the senator’s part. Action like this makes a positive impact in the lives of kids. Thank you Senator Dunleavy!
