To the editor:
The Mat-Su Borough Mayor’s most important responsibility is to run Mat-Su Borough Assembly meetings in such a way as to allow the people to be heard and decisions to be made in a proper manner after all the pertinent information has been gathered.
When Mark Masteller was the Chairman of the Planning Commission, when there was an issue on the agenda that many people wanted to speak about, he made sure that everyone was heard. If necessary, he even scheduled extra meetings so that everyone could give testimony.
As mayor, Larry DeVilbiss has cut off public testimony at meeting after meeting of the Borough Assembly. At one meeting about 50 people were not allowed to be heard because he just decided he’d heard enough.
I want a Borough Mayor who listens. I’m voting for Mark Masteller for Borough Mayor.
