To the editor:
Parents are rapidly rallying and joining efforts in our school system to abolish all forms of bullying, yet these same parents and others don’t seem to mind being bullied themselves.
The incumbent Mat-Su Borough Mayor and the District 3 Assemblyman bully, belittle and besmirch the public who attempt to have their voices heard and participate in public issue decision making. This has been seen recently in several assembly travesties supported by these two individuals. Examples appeared during their treatment of the public on issues including the disabling of legislation involved with tall towers, ethics, land use permitting, multiple family housing, and most recently while refusing coal-related health studies.
Their prevarications in their campaign ads, and robo-calls from California, would have you believe that they single handedly made good things happen in the borough, yet they accept no responsibility for all the failures. One of them spends most of his time hiding in his China closet. They just continue their bullying ways, and the public just rolls over. Some words that seem to apply to these two are: arrogant, spiteful (they only represent people who vote for them), anti-ethics, disparaging, disrespectful and uninformed.
Well, it is election time and the public has the opportunity to make positive change. All it takes is a short and painless trip to the voting booth on Oct. 2.
From my rocking chair, and a few field trips, I have seen two other candidates that I have come to believe can better serve the public (me and thee) than the current mayor and District 3 Assemblyman.
I’ve known Mark Masteller and Michelle Church over the years. I’ve listened to and observed both at public forums and looked into their past public service. They both believe strongly in open public processes that lead to wise land and economic planning and development, the best possible education programs for our children, and a vibrant environment that we live in.
It is my firm conviction that Masteller can lead this borough government as Mayor through facilitation of open sound interaction with the folks in the borough. As assemblywoman for District 3, I see Church working closely with other members of the Assembly to make good public policy. I urge everyone to support them at the polls on Oct. 2.
