Supports Rupright for Wasilla mayor

To the editor:

This letter is to express my support for the re-election of Verne Rupright as mayor of the city of Wasilla.

As a former city council member serving during part of Verne’s tenure as mayor, I saw his ability to balance the city’s budget without cutting personnel. He had the management ability to work with the individual departments to maintain services while still balancing the budget.

Verne had the foresight and connections to hire an aggressive manager for the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center who was able to provide the income to pay off the center’s debt before the due date. This was done not only with budgetary concerns, but with economic development and expansion of services for the facility.

Verne provides a broad view for development for our city. He has lived in Wasilla for more than 28 years, during which time he has been and will continue to be involved in the development of our city for a long time.

Verne Rupright has many connections that provide the ability to go forth with development and monetary benefits to our city.

Mayor Rupright does not get locked into a single-minded idea. His idea is not the final end all. He is willing to listen to our residents and be flexible, even if it varies from his original idea.

Mayor Rupright is a strong candidate who will continue to make Wasilla a better place to live and work.
