To the editor:
There is a lot of mud slinging going on so when trying to decide whom to vote for, for U.S. Senate, I'd like to get my facts and information from the candidates themselves. However, I find it challenging to get the opportunity to approach the candidate.
I went to the Alaska State Fair Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. I was pleasantly surprised to see both Begich and Sullivan had invested in a booth! I thought “what a great opportunity for the candidates to get to know the people they hope to represent and for people, like me, to ask them questions personally.”
I was pleased to see Dan Sullivan standing in his booth, meeting and talking to anyone who would stop. I walked past his booth several times both Sunday and Monday and Sullivan was there for several hours both days, surrounded by a crowd of both supporters and non-supporters, answering their questions and listening to their concerns. I am grateful I too had the opportunity to speak with him personally.
On the other hand, I also visited Begich's booth, several times, hoping to have the opportunity to speak with him as well. The ladies tending to his booth didn't appear to have the answers to the questions I had. I kept checking back to see if Mark Begich had arrived yet. Not only did he never show up, the booth was gone several hours before the fair was even over.
Dan Sullivan has my vote in this U.S. Senate race. Not only is he pro-life, anti-gun control, and a constitutionalist with a passion for success of the state he has raised his family in for nearly 20 years, but he also took his own personal time to spend several hours standing in his booth at the fair, talking to the everyday citizens of this great state. I believe Dan Sullivan truly cares for this state, the people who live here and its future.
