To the editor:
A number of people have asked about who will replace me at the end of my Mat-Su Borough Assembly term in a few days. Of course, it’s up to the voters in District 1, but I do have a recommendation.
Jim Sykes has been a longtime, hard working, community-involved problem solver. As former president of the Lazy Mountain Community Council, he invited everyone’s ideas and got good information to solve local problems, largely by consensus. People were always given the opportunity to ask questions and state their concerns about why they agreed or not. He has a long and well-deserved reputation of being able to work with everybody. Those will be useful talents at the sometimes-contentious assembly table. His past service chairing the Mat-Su Borough Ethics Board will also help. And Jim is innovative and open-minded to any good ideas.
I never imagined that the work of an assembly member would take so much time to do it right. It’s a full-time job.
Jim Sykes has the time and dedication to make sure all of the people in the district have a voice, and that each of our very different communities is respected and well represented. His ability to communicate and work well with legislators and other state and federal decision makers is a real plus. Jim asks the tough questions that help lead to good decisions. Check out his website, SykesforAssembly.com, or give him a call at 354-6962. He’s an energetic, hard working straight shooter. The assembly will be lucky to have him.
