To the editor:
Ethical, thoughtful, fair, involved in the community — these are qualities we need in our elected officials. Jim Sykes has these qualities. This is why I support him for Mat-Su Borough Assembly.
Jim is a 35-year resident of Alaska, the last 15 years on Lazy Mountain, where he lives in an energy-efficient, straw-bale house he and his wife built. He has long been involved in his community and has served as president of the Lazy Mountain Community Council.
Jim has also worked for many years to better the broader community.
Most importantly, he has chaired the borough’s ethics committee and is a strong believer that we deserve ethical, transparent government. To achieve transparency, he favors putting the borough checkbook online so we all can see how our tax dollars are being used. He also has experience in working with people of various points of view to bring them together to find practical, reasonable solutions to problems. In fact, Jim can work productively with almost anyone.
Jim will be diligent in examining all the issues and will be prepared when presenting his views to the assembly. Jim will do his homework.
Because of these solid values, I support Jim Sykes.
