Supports Walker/Mallott

To the editor:

I have taken part in many campaigns, often walking neighborhoods talking with Mat-Su voters about candidates and the issues of Alaska. More often than not, people say they want a return of the statesman-style leadership. Statesman-style leadership is being loyal first to Alaska, not a political party. Nov. 4 we have the opportunity to return to statesman-style leadership by electing Bill Walker and Byron Mallott. Both candidates have demonstrated their ability to:

Listen to the people of Alaska, Compromise for the good of Alaska , Produce solutions to the issues facing our state, Each has a long history or demonstrated integrity and clear understanding of respect.

Walker and Mallott are both committed to placing people in leadership positions based on skills and knowledge rather than party affiliation. Imagine our state being led by subject matter experts rather than top contributors.

In 2002 I became involved in Alaska’s natural gas line issue following all of the gas line project ideas including the Alaska Gasline Port Authority (AGPA). Mr. Walker served as the project manager and led AGPA’s efforts to bring Alaska’s natural gas to market providing affordable natural gas to Alaskans. I have heard political commercials stating Mr. Walker didn’t have permits for the project; I know that statement to be inaccurate. Mr. Walker’s project held permits for so long many of them expired, requiring renewal. As a voter, integrity is important in our leaders. You may confirm the information regarding permits for yourself by calling the Alaska Gasline Port Authority at (907) 474-2011 or exploring the AGPA website at allalaskagasline.com.

If you are an undecided voter, I encourage you to view these upcoming debates: Oct. 26 — on KTUU Channel 2 at 8 to 9 p.m., Oct. 28 — Statewide Broadcast on KTVA Channel 11 at 8 to 9 p.m., Oct. 29 — Statewide Broadcast on KAKM Channel 7 at 7 to 9 p.m., Oct. 31 — lunch debate at Evangelo’s restaurant in Wasilla Noon to 1 p.m.

Remember, Election Day is Nov. 4.
