Supports Walker

To the editor:

Do you trust what government tells you? Have you seen more hunting opportunities or been regulated to death? Have you had more access to Alaska’s trails? Are you tired yet of the bipartisan gridlock excuses for inaction? Are you wondering why your community doctors are leaving? Why did the Department of Environmental Conservation not force the North Pole Refinery to deal with the water pollution issues years before it shut down? And how was Golden Valley Electric Association allowed for 15 years to stall the coal plant “Healy 2” to the tune of $1.5 billion for all Alaskans? Ever wonder about the billions Alaska gave to the oil companies? Where was the oversight, planning and management six years ago that should have headed off our energy disaster that has choked the life out of our communities? Tell me why a private sector energy project or a private surgery center has to fight to conduct business in Alaska? Why do Alaskans pay the highest price for fuel and power in the nation? How is it that Norway enjoys $900 billion in the bank after starting their sovereign wealth fund 24 years after Alaska started our Permanent Fund?

While Alaska endures some of the highest percentages of child abuse, domestic violence, alcohol and substance use disorders and suicide, why are legislators discussing the construction of another prison instead of flooding our prevention, early intervention and treatment system of care with those same capital and operating funds?

Fellow Alaskans, why aren’t you screaming and pulling your hair out? I know we are all busy. But Alaska needs each and every one of you. You have opinions and a vote. Please get involved and let your voice be heard. We definitely have a chance to change our course and turn this around. And the way I see our situation, it comes down to whom you can trust and who will get the job done.

My 33 years in Alaska working in construction and development, including the Delta Wind Farm, tells me that Bill Walker has the heart, vision, drive, and motivation to put Alaskans first. Fellow Alaskans, let’s take our state back. Please support Bill Walker!
