To the editor:
I am excited for the opportunity to vote on Proposition W-1, the 1 percent sales tax increase to fund Wasilla’s new public library.
Libraries have been part of my life since an elementary school teacher took our class to our local library and helped each of us get library cards. She gave us a lifelong gift that day. I often visit libraries and museums when visiting new towns as this gives me an idea of that town’s priorities.
Local library staff does a wonderful job within limited space, but more books and electronic collections can be gathered in a larger space. More people will be able to relax and read. More events, such as reading groups and children’s programs, can be accommodated. Better access to the building and wider aisles within the facility will better allow elderly and disabled persons to use this library.
Please join me in voting yes for the 1 percent sales tax increase Oct. 1.
