PALMER — Reececharles Freeman arrived to the Palmer Courthouse on Wednesday for an adjunction hearing after violating his parole last summer.
According to court documents, Freeman was arrested in Willow May 19, 2018, on theft and criminal charges. Judge Vanessa White said those recent charges will be looked at in conjunction with Freeman’s previous case that was originally filed in 2005 in Anchorage that included 12 charges of sexual abuse of a minor.
“Petition to revoke probation has been pending since May [2018], but it’s based at least in part on new criminal charges,” White said.
White said that Freeman moved to the Mat-Su Valley from Anchorage, thus causing a change in hands in his supervision. Freeman is listed under a Sutton address and his jurisdiction under Palmer Superior was made effective on March 23, 2016, according to court documents.
Freeman was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor after a no contest plea on June 27, 2006, with one charge disposed, according to online court documents. That case has been reopened several times since then.
According to a sworn affidavit submitted by the Alaska State Troopers, officers responded to a theft in progress near Mile 85 of the Parks Highway on May 19, 2018. After a routine traffic stop near Mile 73, AST arrested Doward Cribb, 55, and Freeman, 51, for allegedly stealing about $1,600 worth of items.
According to a previous Frontiersman Police Beat from Nov. 16, 2015, Freeman was arrested with Cribb. Cribb was wanted for his warrant for fourth-degree assault and Freeman was wanted for violating his parole regarding his charges of sexual abuse of a minor.
Assistant District Attorney Krista Anderson said that there was a global offer made to resolve both of Freeman’s cases.
Currently out of custody, Freeman was scheduled to return to court on Feb. 11, but it was pushed to May 1 at 4 p.m. for continued adjuration and possible disposition.
“He may be solving it as a global resolution anyway,” White said.
Freeman’s $500 bail was posted on August 27, 2018, according to court documents. White said that Freeman will remain on his current release conditions.
