As the Palmer High School football team took the field Friday night the Palmer High swim team was exiting the Bartlett pool. This past Friday the Palmer swim team had a tri-meet with Bartlett and Chugiak high schools. The meet was probably the best second meet of the season we at Palmer could have hoped for. While PHS didn't win the meet, they did have several individual and team successes.
The Palmer girls' team tried something new for the A medley relay; senior Aurora Johnson swam the 50 backstroke, and I swam the 50 butterfly which has not happened outside the SOHI Pentathlon, which is this coming weekend.
The boys' medley relay had quite a success getting second place. The boys also went on to later win the 200 freestyle relay. Those were only a few occurrences of Palmer getting into the top three, though that's not what the biggest success at the meet was. The team came to start gaining on our biggest competitor, the stopwatch. Individual PR's were being threatened this past meet, which is amazing considering how early in the season this is. All in all the football team was not the only one to start their weekend on a good note.
