SYLVIA F. YAGELSKI

Trapper Creek resident Sylvia F. Yagelski, 85, died of natural causes April 19, 2004, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

Funeral services were held April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton, Ind. Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiated. Pallbearers were Tony, Nick, Tom and Bob Jurasek, Matt Kamaski and Ted Callaway.

A visitation was held April 23 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home in Chesterton. A Rosary was said at 7 p.m. The American Legion Auxiliary held a service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Chesterton.

A Memorial Mass will be held May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Philip Catholic Church in Trapper Creek.

Ms. Yagelski was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Chicago, Ill.

She attended St. Patrick Elementary School through the 8th grade.

Ms. Yagelski became a resident of Alaska in 1999, living in Trapper Creek.

Ms. Yagelski lived in Chicago until she was 5 years old. She lived in Porter, Ind., until she was 80, and in Trapper Creek until her death.

Ms. Yagelski worked in the Kingsbury Munitions Plant during World War II from 1940 to 1945. She worked for Indiana General Magnet Factory from 1945 until her retirement in 1975.

She was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton. She was also a member of Saint Patrick's Woman's Sodality and Willing Workers Women's Group. She was also a member of Saint Philip Catholic Church in Trapper Creek.

Ms. Yagelski was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 170 for more than 50 years and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Porter, Ind., for more than 50 years.

Her hobbies included doing word search puzzles, traveling and playing cards.

Her family wrote, "Sylvia was devoted to her family and church. She could be counted on to assist others in the community as well. It was always a joy to see her light up with a smile."

Ms. Yagelski is survived by her daughter Mary Anna Jurasek; step-son-in-law Don Woods; grandchildren and spouses, Tony and Amy Jean Jurasek, Nick and Esther Jurasek, Tom and Lisa Jurasek, Bob Jurasek, Ann and Matt Keller and Christine Woods; great-grandchildren Anthony III, Michael, Jeannie Marie, Sabrina, Mitchel, Anastasia, Grant, Joseph, Andrew, Christian, Nicholas, Savannah, Joshua, Victoria, Jonathan and Jillian Jurasek, Kevin, Brandon and Delaney Keller and Terrance Woods.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home Wasilla.
