WASILLA -- The East Thunderbirds edged the Colony Knights 7-6 in an overtime thriller at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena Friday.
The teams combined for seven goals in the first period with Colony taking leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-3 in the first frame.
Costa Lambornakis scored 73 seconds into the game to give Colony the early 1-0 lead. East tied up the game five minutes into the contest, but Doug Lehe took a pass from Chris Crosta and scored at the 6:16 mark to break the tie. Lambornakis scored his second goal of the period to give Colony the two-goal advantage midway through the first. East scored a pair of goals within 31 seconds to tie the game and Crosta scored with just over two minutes remaining to give Colony the 4-3 lead after the first period.
Lehe and Brad Peltz scored third period goals for Colony.
East scored an even- strength goal at the 2:39 mark of the third period to give the Thunderbirds the non-conference victory.
The Knights will return to conference action with a showdown against Valley foe Palmer at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena on Wednesday.
