Valentine's Day is officially on Monday, but most couples will be celebrating the special occasion over the weekend. Mat-Su residents who yearn for events of a formal nature no longer have to make the long drive into Anchorage to enjoy a night on the town.
The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce will host its inaugural Snow Ball tomorrow night at Best Western Lake Lucille Inn. Jazzology will provide live music for your dancing pleasure beginning at 8 p.m.; the event is scheduled to conclude at midnight. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served throughout the evening and a silent auction will provide ample opportunity to find the perfect gift for your sweetheart or yourself. Tickets are available through the Chamber office on Railroad Avenue or by calling the office at 376-1299.
The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce has evolved into a dynamic, forward-thinking organization and should be commended for its commitment to produce first-class events and entertainment options to meet the needs of this rapidly growing community. The Snow Ball is the most recent addition to the organization's annual calendar of events, complementing the fun-filled Iditarod Days Festival, Mat-Su King Salmon Derby and the ever-popular Murder Mystery on the Alaska Railroad, to name a few.
The dedication of this group of business leaders, coupled with the tireless efforts of the group's vibrant executive director, to seek and create innovative festivals and celebrations only serves to further strengthen the community's economic future and further reduce our dependence on out-of-area sources.
If you attend the Snow Ball, or choose another means of celebration, please remember to keep it safe. If you choose to drink, don't drive. Call a taxi, call a sober friend or select a designated driver. The lives of many people are affected each and every day when someone makes the choice to climb behind the wheel after drinking; make the smart choice, the life you save could be your own.
