WASILLA – A Palmer man suffered serious injuries on Sunday when the small plane he was piloting crashed near the Talkeetna Airport.

Alaska State Troopers said in a press release that David L. Meyers, 54, was taken to Providence Hospital via LifeMed helicopter after his 1970 Champion 7ECA crashed in trees near the north end of the runway. Troopers got a 911 call about the crash at around 8:45 p.m., and searchers located Meyers after about 20 minutes of searching.

A Providence spokesperson said Meyers was in serious condition on Monday.

The NTSB has been contacted and is investigating the crash, the second of the day in the Mat-Su area. Earlier on Sunday, a 60-year-old Anchorage man was also airlifted to Anchorage with serious but non life-threatening injuries when he crashed near the Knik Glacier.
