During the week of Nov. 5-9, Tanaina Elementary celebrated "Love of Reading" week. Each day was given a theme, such as: Exercise Your Brain With Books, Hats Off To Reading, Proud To Be American -- Proud To Be A Reader, Cozy Up With A Good Book, and Reading Is Groovy!

Tanaina's librarian, Diane Firmani, enhanced our "Love of Reading" week with a book fair (Reading in a Winter Wonderland) in the library. Ms. Firmani had a "Family Night" on Tuesday featuring books, pizza, and Alaskan author Larry Kaniut.

We closed our fun-filled week with Royal Readers. Royal Readers are people from our community who come in to share their love of reading with the students. This year's Royal Readers were: Iditarod champion Martin Buser, borough mayor Tim Anderson, Wasilla police officers Charlie Fannon and Tim Jessen, Wasilla firefighter Michael Keenan, Maggie May as "Mother Goose," Carolyn Frey as "Little Red Riding Hood," superintendent of schools Pat Chesbro, KMBQ's Danny Preston, and Dr. Cathy Baldwin-Johnson. We always appreciate when people from the community come in and read to the kids. It shows that no matter who you are or what you do, reading is important.
