PALMER— Tarzan and his jungle friends will be putting on a lively show at the Glenn Massay Theater for three weekends starting this Friday.
This local adaption of the classic Disney animated film, "Tarzan" is presented by Triumvirate Theatre and Seims Productions.
"It's gonna be a fun show," director/producer AJ Seims said.
Ten-year-old Caleb Kammer plays a young Tarzan. He said that this is one of his favorite roles because he doesn't have to wear a shirt.
"I like singing and I like running around," Kammer said. "It's fun. I just like having fun with the cast and having people see me on stage."
Collin Christiansen plays the adult Tarzan. He said that he's a "theater junkie," and he's enjoyed having the opportunity to take part in another memorable journey.
"I love performing. I love telling a story," Christiansen said.
Christiansen said that he's had a lot of fun working with new and familiar faces from the local theater community. The cast and crew are known to break into spontaneous dance circles during their down time in rehearsals.
"It's fantastic. This is an amazing cast, really fun to work with," Christiansen said.
Jeremiah Ovard plays Kerchak. He shared Christiansen's sentiment.
"It's a cool production. There's a lot of really talented people. Watching the whole thing come together has been really impressive," Ovard said.
The "Tarzan" musical features many similarities with its film counterpart, including the iconic music created by Phil Collins.
"We're still adding things here and there but it's coming together. We're gonna be ready," Seims said.
Seims said there's a lot that goes into big productions such as these, and all the effort it's worth it.
"It's awesome to help people use their talents. It's rewarding to watch others' creativity. I consider myself a facilitator. Live theater is just such a great experience. It's different from anything else. There's a connection that builds between the audience and the performers," Seims said.
"Tarzan" opens Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. It will run for three weekends at the Glenn Massay Theater. Admission is $25.
