ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors finished as the runner-up in the silver bracket of the Service-Dimond Tournament in Anchorage Saturday.
West Valley edged Wasilla 2-1 (22-25, 25-23, 15-5) in the best-of-3 match in the final round of the bracket. The Warriors opened silver bracket play with a 2-0 (25-21, 25-16) sweep of Chugiak, and followed with a 2-1 (20-25, 25-15, 15-7) victory over Mt. Edgecumbe in the silver bracket semifinals.
Wasilla finished 4-4 in pool play Friday.
Colony also competed in the tournament’s silver bracket, and finished tied for third. The Knights opened with a 2-1 (22-25, 25-17, 15-10) win over Northern Lights Conference rival Kodiak. West Valley beat Colony 2-0 (25-16, 25-15) in the silver bracket semis.
Colony was also 4-4 in pool play.
Wasilla tops Lathrop
WASILLA — Wasilla scored a wild 3-2 (22-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-27, 17-15) nonconference victory over Lathrop Oct. 22 at Wasilla High School.
Olivia Vincent and Brooke Queripel each finished with nine kills for the Warriors. Vincent led Wasilla with seven blocks in the match, and Leya DePriest added five. Courtney Anthony picked up a team-high 21 digs. Cate Currier added 17 digs, and Alana Wheaton and Lindsey Cizek had 13 digs each. Cizek also added 28 assists and eight kills.
Moose beat Kings
PALMER — The Palmer Moose notched a 3-1 (25-14, 25-13, 14-25, 25-15) nonconference victory over Ketchikan Oct. 22 at Palmer High School.
Tiana Lee led Palmer with 40 assists and four aces in the match. Sammy Buresh added 15 kills, while Holly Corbin and Mallory Bradford chipped in eight kills each.
Big week in the NLC
WASILLA — Top seeds in the upcoming Northern Lights Conference Championships are up for grabs this week, as teams close the regular season.
Wasilla will celebrate its senior night as it hosts rival Palmer Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Wasilla High School. Palmer capts its regular season with home matches against Kodiak Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
On the Peninsula, Soldotna hosts Kenai Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Kodiak currently leads the NLC with an 8-0 mark. The Bears are followed by Wasilla (6-3), Palmer (4-3), Soldotna (5-4), Kenai (2-7) and Colony (1-9). The top two seeds in the conference earn a first-round bye in the NLC tournament, which starts Nov. 5 at Kenai.
