Teeland staff members get close shave for a good cause

Teeland Middle School held a fundraiser in late April for the Heavenly Hats Foundation, which collects and distributes brand new hats of all kinds to those of all ages who lose their hair due to the treatment of cancer.

The fundraiser was to purchase a wristband for $1 that allowed students wear a hat to school on Friday. The school also sold STARS to go on its “Wall of Honor” to pay tribute to loved ones who are cancer survivors, currently battling cancer or who have lost their battle.

According to a news release from the school, two staff members are currently battling cancer. The goal was to raise $300 and upon that amount, administrators would shave their heads in front of the students during lunches. Teeland raised more than $700 and as promised, principal Jason Ross, assistant principal Brad Bell, sixth-grade teacher Ryan Engebretsen and Michael McCaulley of the safety office had their heads and beards shaved during lunch.

“It was a great event and the kids enjoyed it so much,” according to the release. “Hair by Clair donated her time to the cause and came in to take care of the guys. Half of the proceeds are being donated to Heavenly Hats and the second half will go directly to our own Mr. Tom Cook.”

In addition to the Heavenly Hats Fundraiser, Teeland is holding a taco feed May 17 to help support Cook and his family. Tickets may be purchased in the Teeland office.
