WASILLA -- Two Wasilla teens on a dirt bike struck a woman who was standing on the side of the road after her car rolled into a ditch Wednesday night, Alaska State Troopers reported.
The woman, Kellie Shaw, and one of the teens were critically injured in the crash and transported by helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. As of Friday evening, Shaw was listed in critical condition, according to a Providence spokesman.
Shaw, 34, was standing on the shoulder of Angel Street in Wasilla waiting for a tow-truck Wednesday evening after she rolled her 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe. Shaw lost control of the Tahoe when she drove too close to a ditch while trying to move over for an oncoming vehicle, and rolled the vehicle when she tried to turn back onto the roadway.
Shaw, after that rollover incident, reported wearing her seat belt and suffered only minor injuries. No citations were issued.
But while Shaw was waiting for a tow truck to arrive, a dirt bike traveling east on Angel Street struck her. The dirt bike was driven by a 15-year-old boy with a 14-year-old passenger on the back.
The passenger, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured in the crash and immediately taken to Providence by helicopter. The youth was in critical condition Thursday morning.
Shaw was initially taken to Valley Hospital and was in critical condition when she was transported by helicopter to Providence Thursday night.
The 15-year-old who was driving the dirt bike was wearing his helmet and, after being treated at Valley Hospital, was released.
