A local teen is now in custody and is facing charges in a case that involved a homicide at a Wasilla movie theater on April 12, the Wasilla Police Department said in an update released Monday afternoon.
Wasilla Police Department officers were dispatched to the Valley Cinema, on Old Matanuska Road, at about 6:45 p.m. April 12 for a reported stabbing. Police and Alaska State Troopers arrived and found that multiple teenagers had been involved in a fight inside one of the theaters. During the fight, one teenager was stabbed, according to WPD.
The suspect remained on scene and cooperated with officers, while the victim was transported to Mat-Su Regional for life-saving treatment. The victim later died of their injuries after being air-lifted to Providence Hospital, police said.
The suspect was arrested on April 22 by WPD, in conjunction with the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Palmer District Attorney’s Office. The suspect was remanded to the Mat-Su Youth Facility.
Neither the suspect nor victim names will be released, as they are both juveniles, WPD said.
