To the editor,
There is a group who call themselves “Alaska’s Future” that is spending millions of dollars on a media blitz covering radio, television and newsprint media to persuade us to call our state reps and tell them a restructuring of the PFD should be a “cornerstone” to our budget woes.
These people are among the wealthiest of our population and their greed for more knows no bounds. Using the PFD should be an absolute “last resort” budget balancing tool, not a “cornerstone” as they state.
Limiting or changing the PFD would be nothing more than a tax on the poorest of Alaskans.
Cut spending and add revenues such as a sales or flat tax as a starting point, but the raid on the PFD should be a very last resort.
Please call your representatives and tell them how much you depend on your share of our oil royalties that by law is yours. Leave a POM or public opinion message at the Mat-Su delegation’s offices at (907) 376-3704.
