Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Terrance James Toomey, 55, died of cancer at home April 9, 2004.
A celebration of his life will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Settlers Bay Lodge.
Mr. Toomey was born April 28, 1948, in Anchorage.
He was a 1966 graduate of Wasilla High School.
Mr. Toomey served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union from 1974 to 1978. He worked for Veco Alaska in Prudhoe Bay from 1988 until 2002.
Mr. Toomey was a history buff, he loved to travel, he enjoyed gardening, camping and hiking.
His family wrote, "Terry loved Alaska! He loved to share his knowledge and excitement for this beautiful place with visiting friends and family."
Mr. Toomey is survived by his mother Opal Toomey of Wasilla; father Francis J. Toomey of Anchorage; wife Trudy Toomey of Wasilla; son Jeremy Toomey of Anchorage; daughter Melissa Toomey of Anchorage; sister Melody Jamieson of Ester; brother Craig Toomey of Wasilla; grandson Brandon Toomey of Anchorage; and various cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Mat-Su, 3051 E. Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Wasilla, AK 99654.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
