To the editor:
Family Promise Mat-Su would like to thank all who participated in our major fundraiser, Cardboard City 2011, July 15 and 16 at the Alaska State Fairgrounds. You are amazing!
Not only did you donate to this worthy cause, but you braved wind and rain to reside in your makeshift cardboard “homes.”
During this event, we shared delicious soup and bread together while being entertained by the exciting music of local band Wild Cat Trio. Inspirational speakers from diverse groups and alumni added to the high spirits and comaraderie shared that evening.
Family Promise is also grateful to those who sponsored this event. Because of your generosity, we were able to educate this residential community about the needs of our homeless Valley children and families. Particularly, we would like to thank you, the Frontiersman, for finding space and putting our event on your reader board for all Palmer-Wasilla Highway commuters to see, as well as:
Country Legends, The Coffee Roastery (Ron McClure), 1st National Bank, Valley Community for Recycling Solutions, Home Depot, Three Bears, Turkey Red, Vagabond Blues, The Red Beet, House of Bread, Fred Meyer, Church on the Rock, L&B Printing, Wild Cat Trio, Palmer Kiwanis, Palmer Rotarians, Master Auto, Friday Flings, Anchorage Daily News and Heather McCausland.
Family Promise is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes community resources and local congregations to provide compassionate care through shelter, meals and case management to families without housing. Guest families are sheltered overnight in area churches. There, they receive hospitality from church members/volunteers.
The ultimate goal of Family Promise is to assist homeless families in achieving self-sustainability. Hundreds of children and their families from the Valley have been successful in this nationally affiliated program. Funds raised during this year’s Cardboard City will help us continue toward our ultimate goal.

We hope to see you all, and many more, next year. Thank you!
