Thank you for supporting my family

To the editor:

I want to thank the Frontiersman’s Caitlin Skvorc for telling my story about battling brain cancer. I hope that people can find hope in my story, and know that cancer can be beat. Beating cancer takes traditional and non-traditional treatment as well as a tremendous amount of support from family, friends, community and doctors.

Recently, Trinity Lutheran and St. John Lutheran Church organized a fundraiser for my family to help alleviate medical costs. We are so grateful for their generosity and also those who attended the fundraiser to support us. We also want to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated silent auction items and their time to put this fundraiser on. We are blessed to live in such a generous community and be part of such a supportive faith community.

We want to thank our families for all of their thoughts and prayers. Family support helps make everything seem possible. My parents and siblings have been with me through it all and I am so grateful for them. They help in so many ways, by helping me get non-traditional treatments, taking me to appointments and just by being there to support me.

Before being re-diagnosed, my wife and I found out we were going to have a baby. This was such exciting news for us and we were thrilled to be expanding our family. This baby has become such a bright spot as we deal with all the emotions and uncertainty of this cancer. Our two children are my motivation to beat this cancer. My wife has been with me from the very beginning, back to my original battle. She is the love of my life and always keeps me positive. She has helped me through so much and I know that together, we are going to get through this.

Having cancer is scary, but you must continue to find the joy in every day. I have discovered more strength than I knew I had and this is because of the support of everyone. Thank you so much to all who have supported my family. We are truly blessed and continue to be humbled by the generosity of others. We hope that we can pay it forward.
