To the editor:
My Willow Elementary school fourth- and fifth-grade students and I would like to express our deep appreciation for the $150 Fiber Arts Grant we were awarded from the Valley Quilters Guild to create a classroom quilt.
Inspired by wildlife artist Sue Coccia, students selected an Alaska animal to portray on our quilt using fabric dyes. In addition, each student wrote a research paper detailing their selected animal. The guild members celebrated both the students’ art as well as their research and writing at their meeting May 2.
The Valley Quilters Guild has often been a benefactor to Willow Elementary School. Over the past several years, 11 of our students, faculty and family members have been given a quilt made by the members of the guild when tragedy such as a fire has occurred in their lives. The Valley Quilters’ Guild certainly upholds its stated goal of service to the community and the education of quilters. My young students may well be the Quilters Guild’s members of tomorrow.
Thank you, Valley Quilters Guild!
