To the editor:
I would like to publicly acknowledge Butte Elementary and its music teacher, Carrisa McClain, who invited me to share Ya Ne Dah Ah Stories on the evening of Nov. 18. I was very impressed that she taught the fourth-graders Alaska Native history, songs and dances to share with the audience. They even made traditional headdresses to wear. Their performance was so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye and set the stage for a fun evening.
As an indigenous person from this area, the change to seeing this instead of pilgrims was major.
I am available to go into the schools and share our Ahtna history and stories. I appreciate the opportunity to do so.
