On Jan. 17, Erling Nelson collapsed at the Mat-Su Borough administration building. His family wishes to express thanks to the borough employees and emergency personnel who came to his assistance. We are thankful to live in a community where individuals step up to help one another. Many in the community knew Erling through his work at the city of Wasilla, the historical society and the transportation museum, as a single father who raised six children or as a Wasilla Warrior basketball super-fan.
I knew him in all of these ways and more - he was my uncle and my friend.
I have read and heard many thoughtful recollections of Erling by individuals in the community since his passing. I thank these people for sharing their thoughts of Erling with us. He was very special to his family and it is a comfort to know that his memory lives in the hearts of our friends and neighbors in the community he called home.
Thank you all.
