MY HOUSE board members want to thank the Wasilla Rotary and St. David’s Church of Wasilla for their generosity and offerings to homeless youth in our community. Wasilla Rotary provided holiday survival kits for homeless youth over the Christmas break while schools are closed. Bags were filled with instant and microwaveable food items, gift cards, socks and scarves, along with personal hygiene and toiletries items.
Schools are square one for homeless kids. Besides getting an all-important education, this is where they can get out of the cold, get a warm meal and support from staff. During the Christmas break, homeless youth will be without that lifeline.
However, St David’s is opening its doors from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Dec. 19 to Dec. 30 to provide showers, laundry, warm meals and a gathering place.
You can donate food items that can be carried out the door for these homeless youth. Snack bars, juice boxes or items that are easy to carry and can be eaten on the road would a great help. St. David’s is located at Mile 2.2 of Wasilla-Fishhook Road.
