On New Year’s Day 2015, all Valley and Anchorage Kaladi Brothers cafes donated all of that day’s drink proceeds to the Anchorage Women’s Aid in Crisis. The baristas at the Valley and Anchorage Kaladi locations choose to volunteer their time that day, earning only their tips.
Around closing time, Kaladi reported that “with the assistance from Shell Alaska, AWAIC will receive $31,500” from their 2015 New Year’s Day program. Also for the entire month of January, Kaladi is donating $2 to AWAIC for each bag of “robust Guatemalan coffee” sold.
The Mat-Su and Alaska National Organization for Women chapters applaud Shell Alaska and Kaladi Brothers’ staff for choosing Anchorage’s AWAIC center as the recipient agency for their 2015 New Year’s Day charitable drive. We encourage other Alaska for-profit businesses to follow their lead and raise awareness and take action to significantly decrease domestic violence in Alaska, help Alaska’s women and children escape violent homes, and improve overall community health.
