To the editor:
An 8-year-old girl’s desire to help children in an orphanage led to the fundraising campaign Breezley’s Love. Breezley Snow, a third-grader at Pioneer Peak Elementary School, set out to raise $1,000 for the children of Mathruchhaya, an orphanage in Bangalore, India. In the end, she raised almost $2,000.
On her behalf, I would like to thank the Frontiersman, particularly, Heather Resz, who came to the school, listened attentively, took photos, and wrote in-depth and compassionately about the project, for their invaluable support. With this, news of the project spread throughout the Mat-Su Valley.
I would also like to thank Pioneer Peak administration and staff, teachers, parents and students, for their generosity and support. Valley Country Store, Fireside Books, and Three Bears, set out collection jars at their businesses, and community members contributed a substantial amount of money, all of which will be sent to the children of Mathruchhaya. Denali Destroyer Dolls members, Erika Bills and Shari Dundas, passed the skate for Breezley’s Love during an event in April, raising almost $150. Thank you to the Dolls. Northrim Bank set up an account, deposited the funds and will wire a check to Mathruchhaya.
