Thanks for supporting scholarship golf tourney

To the editor:

As the past-president of the local branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, I would like to recognize our non-profit group’s charitable efforts. Our primary focus is supporting the higher education pursuits of our local high school students. Every year for the past five years, we have awarded $4,000 in college scholarships to two graduating high school seniors who have enrolled in a college engineering program. That’s a total of 10 budding engineers that we have helped on their way to a professional career, so far. I wanted to ask for your help in expressing gratitude to our organizing committee and our sponsors, who donate their time and money to make it all happen.

This year’s fundraiser was our third time hosting a golf tournament at Settler’s Bay near Wasilla. The event had more than 40 participants and raised about $4,000 this year. Our Golf Tournament Committee consisted of myself (Mat-Su Borough Engineer), Chris Bowman, P.E., of Hattenburg, Dilley and Linnel, and Troy Gere from PND Engineers.

A special thanks to all of our sponsors: Raven Engineering; Corvus Designs; Lounsbury & Associates; HDR Alaska; The Boutet Company; Hattenburg, Dilley and Linnel; PND Engineers; Enterprise Engineering; Hydraulic Mapping and Modeling; Murph O’Brien; Little Susitna Construction Co.; Sports Authority; and Arkose Brewery.
