Thanks to the Frontiersman for featuring the hard work volunteer citizens performed recently to help other users care for the Palmer Hay Flats Refuge habitat. In spite of the soggy day, everyone pitched in and enthusiastically laid protective Geoblock for hunting season ATV access from the new trail bridge across Cottonwood Creek.
As public lands go, this is an incredible gem of diverse wildlife and recreational opportunities. It is most gratifying to know there are those who will step forward to help the Department of Fish and Game Land and Refuge Program take care of it. Those happily giving of their time included the Bass Pro Alaska Outpost, Alaska Frontier Trappers Association, Alaska Waterfowlers Association and Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats.
More work remains, so if anyone would like to help finish the job, call Fish and Game Refuge Program Director Joe Meehan at 267-2281, Palmer Hay Flats Refuge Manager Doug Hill at 861-2112 or Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats office in Wasilla at 357-8711.
