To the editor:
Many thanks to Heather (Resz) and K.T. (McKee) of the Frontiersman for such a great article about the rain garden. We want to thank all of the participants in the project and hope you will be able to print our thank you letter submitted here.
After a fun morning of digging, planting and watering, our months of planning and organizing came to completion in our beautiful new rain garden here at Birch Creek Villas Senior Complex in Meadow Lakes.
It was a happy occasion and those responsible are to be thanked.
Thank you to Catherine Inman, Wasilla Soil and Conservation District, Frankie Barker, Mat-Su Borough Environmental Planner and intern Alex Salmins who, along with Matt LaCroix, EPA Representative, brought the concept of the rain garden to the Meadow Lakes Bloomers Garden Club. Thank you to garden club members Dale and Margaret Liefer, Bev Marple, Jullie Starr, Bobbi Baker, Annie Benedict, Holly Gerlach-Grant and Patti Fisher, who donated plants and dug in the dirt after the club took on the rain garden project.
We also want to thank landscape architects Eric Morey and Luanne Urfer of Sustainable Design Group for the thoughtful garden design; Fritz Hoffman of Rock Ridge Services for his expertise in excavation; and Seed-N-Tree nursery in Palmer for providing additional plants. The rain garden would not be in place, collecting runoff water and preventing continued soil erosion without the combined efforts of all the above. It was an educational and enjoyable experience with the benefits extending into the future.
Thank you all so very much.
