That’s my dad on the front page!

To the editor:

I would like to thank the Frontiersman for doing the story of Don Heikes, who donates his time to perform country music at the Alaska Venterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer.

My father is the gentleman in the wheelchair on the front page. I cannot express how much it means to me to see a smile on his face or him tapping his foot to the old country songs. The other residents are all smiling, dancing or tapping their feet as well. Most residents there, like my father, have some dementia issues as well as other things going on, but it is truly amazing what the music does for them.

I sincerely hope more musicians will donate their time and talent to entertain these priceless veterans and special people.
