The Abortion Empire Strikes Back

In Matthew 12, Jesus describes what happens if He casts out a demon but the person from whom it is cast out does not invite the Spirit of God to dwell within them.

Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first” (Matthew 12:43-45).

Christians rejoiced at the overturning of Roe v. Wade. They incorrectly thought that Dobbs v. Jackson would end abortion. It did not. It clarified that the United States Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. It did not overturn State laws affirming abortion as Roe overturned State laws forbidding abortion – the taking of a human life.

Abortion advocates lost nothing by the overturning of Roe. Roe had accomplished its mission – it poisoned the minds of an entire culture. For nearly fifty years the public was told abortion was a right, life does not begin at conception, the child was nothing but a clump of cells and the woman (or “person with a uterus”) was the only one with an interest in the decision.

The church has failed in its mission to proclaim the Biblical truth that life does begin at conception and abortion is the taking of a human life. God knows and has a plan for the developing child from the moment of conception. “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them (Psalm 139:16).

Because we failed to teach Biblical truth so that people’s hearts and minds would reject abortion, the unclean spirit of abortion is back and brought others with it. In Kansas voters rejected a State constitutional amendment banning abortion. The Nebraska legislature failed to pass a law prohibiting abortion after six weeks of gestation. Michigan adopted a State constitutional amendment affirming the “right” to abortion even after “fetal viability.” Ohio is considering a similar amendment this fall.

The return of abortion is bringing with it the unrestricted access to “gender affirming” health care. The Michigan constitution states, “Every individual has a fundamental right to reproductive freedom.”

Christians must share the Biblical truths about abortion and the sexes. We must do it with love and respect.
