The Bible Is Under Attack

The Bible is under attack perhaps more than ever before. And not just by non-religious people, but those who claim to be christians as well. Let’s discuss why the Bible is paramount to the christian faith. Then we will look at what God says about the Bible, and why it is so crucial to believe all of it in its entirety. Believing the Bible also clears up right from wrong and makes it increasingly clear how God intended for us to live as His holy people.

The whole christian faith is revealed to people through the Bible. In order to learn more about God, the Bible is our best resource and is widely available. In fact, it is the most available, most purchased, most scrutinized, and most translated book in the world. Wow! If you want to learn more about that, I highly recommend reading “God Wrote a Book” by James MacDonald.

Why should we believe the Bible is really God’s Word? The Bible has withstood the test of time. It is the most widely criticized book in the world, constantly being tested by skeptics, yet never being tarnished in its authenticity and truth. Another reason we must believe God’s word is all true is if we believe He is perfect, how then could his Word not be? The Bible very clearly states that all Scripture is inspired by God. Here is just one verse backing this claim: “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Choosing to believe only certain parts of the Bible becomes very subjective. If you only believe one part of Scripture, but then say another part is not true, who is to say the most important parts are not true as well? For example, maybe you believe sex outside of marriage is acceptable and that idea was just cultural and old-fashioned back in that time and not applicable to today. Well the Bible clearly states several times that sex is to be only practiced within a marriage covenant between a man and a woman. Then do you also believe the Gospel is not true either? Did Jesus actually die on the cross for our sins? If this did not happen, our whole faith is baseless. And we have no reason to try to live differently from others. You have to believe it all is true. I cannot stress the importance here!

The Bible convicts. This is perhaps the biggest reason that people falter on their belief in the Bible. The Bible tells us when we are wrong. In our culture you are considered hateful if you do not accept everything a person does. Many people feel pressure and do not stand behind God’s Word. Let’s be clear, when you have a sin problem and a brother or sister in Christ counsels you graciously with Scripture; your problem is not with that person, your problem is with God! Take humility and put yourself under God’s authority. His commands are meant to protect us and provide us with joy beyond any of our imaginations.

Today, there is an absence of Scripture in sermons, the prosperity gospel is being spread wildly, sexual immorality is accepted within the church, men and women’s roles are confused, and God’s book is brushed aside as some outdated thing that we do not need to follow because it is not applicable to us. I implore anyone reading this to examine their hearts. God’s Word is perfect, preeminent, and life-changing if we would only bring ourselves under God’s authority.

The joy and blessings you will receive by living a life for Christ are indescribable. Let God’s Word reign in your life, study it, memorize it, and be thankful we have such a powerful God who gave us His infallible Word to help us navigate a fallen and broken world.

I was born and raised in Wasilla, AK on a vegetable farm. My 6 siblings and myself were homeschooled all the way through high school. Basketball has been my passion for a long time and in high school I played for Colony. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UAA in 2020. From a young age my parents taught me about Jesus Christ and I was so blessed to grow up in a loving home committed to pursuing God. I now enjoy my free time playing basketball, fishing, hiking, camping, and sharing my hope in Jesus Christ with others.
