The end of my musical career.

Leave it to Brutal Bill to find a way to still do cardio work without putting any strain on my ailing knee.

I found myself explaining to Bill how my knee had been misbehaving the last week. He asked what the doctor had to say, so I had to confess I hadn’t been to see one. He suggested that since it’s been about a week and I haven’t seen any improvement, that it would probably be a good idea to schedule a visit. I heard “But, I don’t want this to interfere with my workouts”, echo in the room.

What?! Who said that? I looked around the room expecting to see the person who mouthed these words standing behind me. Nope. The room was empty except for me and Bill. Wow, I can’t believe it was me who said that.

“Not to worry”, said Bill. I should have known something like a sore knee wouldn’t keep Brutal Bill from his hour of pleasure and torture. Bill led me over to a piece of machinery that looked like a recumbent bicycle, only the pedals were at arm’s height. After about ten minutes on this contraption, I was sure that it was really some medieval torture device with a cleverly disguised as a modern piece of equipment. I periodically looked up at Bill and thought he was smiling a bit too much. Yup, he was definitely enjoying this a bit too much.

We moved into the weight room, and Brutal Bill continued to put me through a series of moves that were designed to make your muscles burn. From there he moved me to the mats for stretching and crunching. After what seemed an eternity (with my abs burning so hot that I was sure the smoke detectors would go off at any minute) Bill told me it was time to punch him. Yes! Revenge!

He handed me some hand pads as held a larger pad in from of his chest and told me punch to the rhythm of the metronome. He increased the tempo a few times and kept repeating, “Punch to the beat!” Finally, he looked at me and said, “You’re not very musical, are you?” I think this was his way of telling me I have no rhythm.

I’ve already confessed in an earlier blog that I’m not the most graceful or coordinated person, and now Bill has outed my lack of rhythm.

The food and water intake was good today, too. I’m finding it easier and easier to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water every day. Aside from my morning coffee, it is really about all I drink anymore.

The lecture series provided by Mat-Su Regional Medical Center are proving to be a huge success! Last night’s lecture on exercise was attended by more than 50 Trim to Winners, and reports are the new venue is very nice. Next week’s meeting is a must for those looking for quick and healthy low-cost meals for families on the go, presented by Julie Cascio from the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service.
