The Eyes of God

The eyes of YEHOVAH are in every place, watching the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3). Many people think that God is observing them, just waiting for the opportunity to punish them when they sin. God lovingly watches all people - their actions determine if what He sees is evil or good.

God’s care for all people is demonstrated by His watching over everyone; just as, “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45).

“For the eyes of Yehovah move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His” (2 Chronicles 16:9). God is always looking for the opportunity to strengthen those “who hunger and thirst for righteousness” promising that “they will be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6).

God supports believers as we pursue sanctification. The Apostle Paul explains “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:16).

Likewise He empowers our efforts to serve Him, “for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13)

As God is watching us, He is also revealing Himself to us. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you” (Psalm 32:8). Jesus explained how this is accomplished, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (John 14:26).

As God is watching over us, He is also listening to us and our prayers. The Apostle Peter quoted from Psalm 34 when instructing believers, “For The eyes of Yehovah are toward the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer, but the face of Yehovah is against those who do evil” (1 Peter 3:12).

God watches over His children to protect them. “He provides them with security, and they are supported; and His eyes are on their ways” (Job 24:23), “He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous” (Job 36:7).

In response to these truths David wrote, “Behold, the eye of Yehovah is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for Yehovah; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Yehovah, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You” (Psalm 33:18-20).

God instructed Aaron to bless the people with these words describing God’s watchfulness. “Yehovah bless you and keep you; Yehovah make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; Yehovah lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).
