Wasilla High School’s drama department is putting on a rib-tickling, full-length production of “The Mouse That Roared.” The comedy, adapted by Christopher Sergel, is based on the book of the same name by Leonard Wibberley. In the play, a tiny country in the Alps called the Duchy of Grand Fenwick (described as 5 miles long by 3 miles wide) is on the brink of bankruptcy. The sovereign of the tiny nation, Gloriana the 12th, devises a wild plan to save her country — declare war on the United States. According to Gloriana, ‘There are few more profitable undertakings than to declare war on the United States — and to be defeated,’ because the United States typical reaction is to extend generous aid to those it defeats in battle. The men of Grand Fenwick proceed to attack New York City, in broad daylight, with bows and arrows. After a series of hilarious plot twists, the audience will be roaring with laughter. With its endearing cast of characters, breathtaking costumes and superb comedic acting “The Mouse That Roared” is a must-see. The play runs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. through Dec. 19. Admission is $7. (Photo courtesy of Rachel J. Clark/Wasilla High School)
