The Palmer Alaska Buzz is happy to announce that Raven Hall Spring Consign 49 Event is HERE!!!!!

Have you ever visited someone’s home that has the most interesting combination of furnishings, art, knick knacks, and fun stuff on the walls? Well you get to do that this on Friday and the weekend at Palmer’s annual spring Consignment Event-Raven Hall—at the Alaska State Fairgrounds. It is honestly the best transformation that Raven Hall experiences in its long and varied events. It is like a community department store, with very creative pricing. If you have been to one of these Consignment events, you will know what I am talking about.

It’s a Palmer Puzzle Oasis—There are hundreds of puzzles…and there are fantastic prices. Things are very well displayed and shopping bags are provided. Xtra Tuffs are for sale along with camping equipment, sports clothing, sports, equipment, decor, books, outer wear, furniture, jeans, men's clothing, shoes, boots, bags, specialty items, garden art and tools, spotting scopes, binoculars, blankets, and scarves are just a few categories of the immense inventory that awaits shoppers in one big building. It’s a bit overwhelming and totally fun. Essentially everyone opens up their closets and brings their things to Raven Hall to sell like one huge garage sale. The distinction is the Consign inventory is good quality and it would be very difficult to walk out empty handed. The sale runs on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Parking and admission are free. There will be food and lots.of treasures and trousers. In fact this writer did an official count of the number of women’s jeans, lined up on the clothing racks last fall. There were 1875 pairs of jeans…and probably an equal number of happy buyers.

Organized Well—This upscale garage sale is a best community resale bazaar which happens twice a year. It feels like everyone digs through their house and closets and brings their coolest stuff to sell. It feels like you are walking into a massive, affordable, high-end department store—everything is organized according to size and type. There is the sports area, the tool area, the decor area, seasonal things, vintage and antiques, baby things, men’s things and of course women’s clothing and footwear. That is just a few of the categories. Even the clothing is separated by size and function—fancy and worker and sweaters and jeans. Admission and parking is all free. There is an estimated 40,000 items.

Overwhelming At First—It’s a little overwhelming at first but when you look at the cleanliness, impressive organization, high quality and low price, it’s definitely a Palmer place to go this weekend. There are miles of blue jeans, acres of shoes and boots and a full flotilla of purses and handbags. There’s nice vintage clothing and hot looking boots, cool furniture, sporting equipment, beautiful artwork, tools, remarkable crafts, and every kind of curious tchotchke imaginable. Have fun!

Poetry For Palmer—Now is the weekend for celebrating poetry in Palmer. It all started on Thursday with Ken Waldman presenting at the Palmer Presbyterian Church at 330. Friday is an Adult workshop at the Church at 2pm. Friday night is a concert at Lekker Coffee Shop at 630 pm. Sunday night is Poetry Ope Mic from 2-4 at 203 Kombucha. Also in Palmer this weekend is a Palmer Library Book Sale at the Senior Center on Saturday afternoon. And Sunday afternoon is a concert at the Glenn Massey auditorium at the college.

Boozy Book-sale—Last weekend on Saturday afternoon was a great time at the Bleeding Heart Brewery. There were book sellers and book writers and book readers and a bit of beer and many, many people who love either books or beer or both. The atmosphere is one of casual joy and Palmer is getting really good at these terrific localized events, sponsored by the Bleeding Heart Brewery.
