The Wisdom of God

We live in the information age. Information is not knowledge and knowledge is not wisdom. Today, more information about God is available than ever because of the internet. Despite the availability of information, our society lacks even basic knowledge about God. It also suffers from lacking the wisdom that comes from knowing Him through the study of His Word.

Proverbs 1:7 states, “The reverence of Yehovah is the beginning of knowledge.” Further, Psalm 9:10 tells us, “The reverence of Yehovah is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Note: Jesus is the “Holy One of God” referred to throughout the Old Testament (John 6:69).

Having a relationship with God and studying the scripture gives us the knowledge and wisdom that we need to live our lives. We enter into relationship with God only by salvation through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). The Apostle Paul teaches that Jesus is, “wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). Jesus gave us knowledge about God by speaking the words of God. “For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken” (John 12:49).

Unfortunately, mankind has chosen human “wisdom” over God’s eternal wisdom. Worse, they dismiss God’s words as foolish, “the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18). Yehovah proclaims the superiority of His wisdom “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ declares Yehovah. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.’” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

God invites us to learn from His Word and promises to help us understand it “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things” (John 14:26).

Despite all this, our society continues to reject God’s wisdom. That rejection has consequences, “though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools,” (Please read Romans 1:18-25).

God is always ready to welcome back those with darkened hearts. “Seek Yehovah while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Yehovah, and He will have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7)

God laments, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Our hope is in Jesus. “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us” (2 Peter 1:2-3).
