Them boring Democrats

Someone recently wrote to me asking me why I don’t go after “That lying pants suit” and the other Democrats. Well, I’ll tell you what, it is really simple. The Democrats are boring. No really they are. Look at their debates so far. They do a lively discussion on the issues, very little finger pointing or insults. The candidates themselves push the issues as well in their ads on the TV and radio. Nothing spectacular, nothing grandiose, nothing over the top. They are doing their job trying get elected. In other words, boring.

Oh, there is the issue of Hilary’s baggage. It’s old baggage that has been repeated over and over again with little results except nausea. Where as the other side has been anything but boring. No not even by a long shot. Come on, in comparison the Republican race has been a complete circus without a ring leader.

Their debates have boiled down to screaming matches. Where the issues have been replaced by fantastic charges, rabid insults and what was really slimy, public comparison of certain parts of the male anatomy amongst them (thank God it wasn’t show and tell). Their issues are hate-filled delusions against anybody who isn’t white, gun toting, homophobic, anti-Muslim, anti-women’s rights and paranoid. And that’s just the short list!

Lets look at the rallies. Bernie’s attract thousands yet his rallies are panned by a lot of the media. They tend to follow Hillary more often. There is lots cheering and sign waving, with the usual stump speeches by both, along with the occasional swipe at each other. A rallying cry against their main opposition, the Republicans with their issues. They are mellow and polite, ho hum.

As for the Republicans, well golly gee it is a free-for-all. Their rallies have all the civility and calm of a WWE wrestling match, where supporters and protesters are likely to clash violently and try to defeat either cause in a flurry of fisticuffs. Then there is the rolling insults toward Cruz and Trump by each other. Not only did they direct their collective vitriol against their Republican counterpart, it has spilled over to include their wives in the ugliest of fashions. Going off on each other like 6-year-old bullies in the schoolyard. It was sickening to watch that unfold. Of course the media jumped all over it like starving dogs.

Now there was an exemption to all this hooliganism, the small voice of reason in the form of Ohio governor John Kasich. He is the only Republican candidate not caught up in the fracas his colleagues have started. Sadly he will not make it in the end. His apparent stance for honesty, reason and ethical ways of running a campaign will get him nowhere by his own party. In other words he is boring too, and stands a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the nomination let alone being elected president. Why? Because he makes some sense and is far from being a clown. Pity.

The Republicans have only themselves to blame when they trotted out a bunch of unqualified, clueless, rabid, power-hungry fools and tried to pass them off as real candidates (with one or two exceptions who failed to make the grade). It would be funny if this wasn’t for the most powerful office in the land. Along with control of the best armed forces in the world, the president holds the keys and codes to the most lethal weapons on the planet: Thermonuclear bombs. Sobered up now? Believe me, I’m far from laughing about it.

Why would people favor a megalomaniac buffoon or a self-centered right wing extremist is beyond all logic and reason. Somehow those qualities (logic and reason) along with ethics, dealing with real issues and positive campaigning have gone out the door when it comes to the Grand Old Party. Nastiness, delusions and stupidity have replaced those fine ideals.

You know, you Republicans might want to take a lesson or two from those pesky Dems and Gov. Kasich. Boring is cool, boring is better, boring may even get you elected. This means of course I will have less to write about. But I’m willing to make that sacrifice. I’ll find something else to comment on.
