If you were able to pick one thing to do better than anyone else, would you fly, swim, climb, run or be stronger than everyone else?
That's the question posed in Kyle and Lisa Forbush's The Sourdoughs' Five Children, a storyboard children's book that is the third for the Big Lake couple.
The answer, of course, is that every personal quality is good, but working together is the most important thing.
The book details the five children, each who has one characteristic that's better than his siblings -- one can fly, one can swim fast, another is stronger than anyone else, another is a great climber and the fifth child is fast like the rabbits.
Mrs. Sourdough needs supplies from her trapper's cabin, and she asks each child for a supply. She gives them each a list of the item to get. Once they reach their cabin, however, the children realize that no matter how strong they are with a particular ability, they can't get all the supplies back to their mom without using their siblings' talents as well.
"The moral of the story helps children see the wisdom in appreciating others and the good that results from cooperation," the book reads on the back.
The book is a board-style book, and is published by Todd Communications in Anchorage.
Kyle and Lisa Forbush, who live in Big Lake, have also authored and illustrated Alaska's Favorite Bears and Balto, as well as a children's coloring book, Alaska's Wild Animals Coloring Book.
The book retails for $6.95 and is being distributed statewide.
