There is proof that God exists

Recently I was asked to prove God exists without using the Bible.

A few nights ago I was pondering the question late at night, the porch light was on and the wind was blowing a small tree back and forth. As I watched the tree I asked myself how I could prove the wind is blowing.

The reality is I can’t. I can hear the wind blow through the trees, I can see the dust blow up and see the trees move. I can feel the chill on my face, but to prove the wind is blowing, without all the sound and visual effects of the wind how do I know it is the wind?

The only way I know is because of all of the effects of the wind. Science has taught people that until a theory is proven by cause and effect it is just a theory. With this in mind I can prove that God does exist.

God is audible

He speaks to me every day through his written word, the Bible. Some may find this hard to believe.

Just as my wife’s face will light up when I write how much I love her, my words speak as clearly as if I had spoken them to her. She values the written word as if I had spoken it. The best part of the written word is that anytime she likes she can reread the words and the expression of love is still there no matter how long ago it was written. God gave us the Bible about 2,000 years ago, even today it speaks to through the ages.

God is physical

I can see, smell and taste evidence of his existence. With all the knowledge of mankind, years of learning and experience, technology and intelligence man still cannot make anything from nothing. All we can do is change the physical structure of the element. Not one time has a scientist with all the knowledge listed above been able to create something from nothing. Yet God has given us the beauty, taste and smell of the world around us.

God is emotional;

I can feel his work

This is the best part of knowing God to me. I was raised in a dysfunctional home near where I live today. In those days we had no electricity, water or sewer, food was scarce, heat was whatever burned. I was angry, violent and confused as a child.

One day I asked Christ to come into my heart. Immediately the anger and violent child was relaxed and happy. The situation had not changed but the feelings inside me were.

The peace of God has traveled with me for many years. From the battlefield of Iraq to the violence of being a police officer in the field to personnel tragedies, God has continued to give me peace in my life.

That is not to say that I do not sometimes have challenges in my life, only that God is there to give me guidance and peace. The peace is the hardest thing for a Christian to explain to someone who is not a Christian. The easiest way to explain it is like having a big brother that takes care of you. Over the years I have discussed the peace of Christianity with atheists and the common thread that I have discovered is that atheists are always angry. Some time ago I realized why atheists are angry.

They see nothing after death. To an atheist, death is a black hole of nothing. For the atheist I have great pity. It must be terrifying to have nothing after this life. It must be an empty, unsatisfying life they lead.

Just as the wind moves the trees, I see God moving in my life. Just as I hear the wind blowing, I can hear God speaking to me through his book. Just as I can feel the love of my wife, I can feel the love that God has for me. I can, without reservation, state that God not only exits but is alive and active in a Christian’s life. I have identified the cause and effect. In short, using science’s own requirements of proof, I can state that God does exist.
