Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Thomas James Marquiss, 10, died at his home on Oct. 16, 2004. A viewing was held at Valley Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, with a memorial service at King's Chapel in Wasilla on Tuesday, officiated by Pastor Ken Gabel.
Thomas was born in Palmer on June 21, 1994. He attended fourth grade at Cottonwood Creek Elementary School. He enjoyed his computer and playing video games. He also enjoyed bicycling, fishing, camping and playing baseball with his family. He was an active member of Pack No. 297 of the Cub Scouts.
His family wrote, "Thomas' favorite pastime was driving his mother and family crazy." His mother said, "Thomas will always be 'my sunshine' and 'my dancin' boy.' He will always be remembered when I look in the sky and see God's eye. I will forever remember his laughter, smiles and silly jokes."
He is survived by his mother, Donamarie Marquiss; father, William D. Burrese Jr.; uncle, John (Bo) Gruchow and aunt, Eva Buck, all of the Palmer/Wasilla area. He is also survived by his brother, Clayton Marquiss, of Seattle; sister, Kylene Marquiss, of Pensacola, Fla., and numerous other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
