Thoughts on Nov. 6 election

To the editor:

The idea that we are a nation of autonomous, free-thinking people is fading as a result of the Nov. 6 election. Less than half of us still hold to the concept, but it’s becoming clear that a majority of U.S. voters feel dependence on government is a better option.

As a result we are witnessing the death of individualism as over half the country now values group thinking and collectivism over being capable, self-sustaining, individuals. They have no interest in living a life free from interference by the government.

They want a world where their decisions, from the size of their sodas, to the health care they are given are made for them. We are evolving into a country where success is no longer something to be admired, rather it’s something to be jealously mocked, ridiculed and destroyed.

The electorate ignored the self-destructive consequences as President Barack Obama voters were out for revenge. Tuesday’s election has set us on a path that ends the melting pot, expands class warfare, ends individualism, and increases widespread dependence, which have been Obama’s goals all along.

From day one in ’08 his goal has been to expand the federal government to encompass every aspect of our lives. His goal is to redistribute America’s wealth ignoring the fact that he’s also redistributing misery. In every category, from our standing throughout the world to our economic power at home, Obama’s policies have made our nation weaker. America is now the weakest it’s been since the Revolutionary War. We are headed for financial ruin, are neither feared nor respected by our enemies, and we have seemingly insurmountable internal divisions divide us. Yet on Nov. 6 we doubled down on the very policies that brought us to this point. As a nation we are on a very dangerous path. The sad fact is that Obama’s most ardent supporters are the ones who will bear the brunt of the bleak future he is creating. Lest they forget; the more the government gives you, the more it can take away.

Fortunately, Alaska’s voters rejected the megabucks campaign by Backbone to keep the senate coalition so Nov. 6 was not all bad news. Alaskans stepped up and elected a Republican majority that we can all expect will move the state ahead on oil and gas tax reform, a gas pipeline, and other important state business for the benefit of all Alaskans. Mat Valley Sen. Charlie Huggins (my state Senator) and Sen. John Coghill from Fairbanks are excellent choices to lead the new Republican Majority, which should make the 2013 legislative session very productive, as well as kind of fun to watch.
