WASILLA — A member of the Country Legends 100.9 fundraising team plunges into the frigid waters of Wasilla Lake Friday during the 11th Annual Mat-Su Plunge. This year’s edition of the Mat-Su Sertoma event had raised more than $18,800 by Saturday afternoon, and organizers expected the total funds raised to exceed the $20,000 goal. Plungers lined up sponsors before the event and then donned a wide range of fiction and comic-book superhero-inspired costumes before plunging into the ice-cold water. The top fundraising individual was 73-year-old Lions Club member Phyllis Beer, who led off with the inaugural plunge. The top fundraising team was the Boomtown Derby Dames, who raised $1,860. Proceeds from the annual charity event will benefit Valley service organizations Sertoma, MY House, and the Mat-Su Seniors. BRIAN O’CONNOR/Frontiersman.com
