Three cheers for the Wasilla Post Office

To the editor,

Like everyone else who goes to the Post Office in Wasilla, I’ve spent more time in line there than I care to think about, especially in the last couple of months, thanks to the holidays and the problems with the Knik Post Office.

All this time in line has given me ample opportunity to watch the clerks.

At the Post Office in my folks’ town, the clerks snarl, they move like mimes in slow motion, they seem to look for excuses to send you to the back of the line, they pretend they don't understand your questions, and they act very annoyed and put-out to have to serve you.

Not so at the Wasilla Post Office! Here, I have noticed that even during the last hour of the day Michael is still walking and talking at 100 MPH. Ditto Rodney and the others: greeting many customers by name, offering to make sure that a package is adequately taped, giving customers tips about how to send things faster and cheaper, and giving customers “cuts” in the line after they’ve fixed whatever needed fixing.

Rodney’s wit is as quick as his movement. I don't know how he and Michael do it, but somehow they find humor in their jobs and I often leave laughing — after having been offered 764 pennies in change, or some other silly thing.

Customer after customer is given efficient, fast and friendly service, all day, every day at our Post Office.

I don’t enjoy waiting in line, but good service is worth waiting for, and in my opinion, we couldn't get better service than we do at the Wasilla Post Office.
